Understanding Uncombable Hair Syndrome
The Hair Cannot Be Flattened Down And Becomes Fragile, Breaking At The Base
There is a health condition called uncombable hair syndrome. The hair grows straight and cannot be flattened. Also, at a certain length, the hair breaks at the root. The reason is that the cross-section of a normal hair is a circle or an oval, which gives it flexibility, while in the case of uncombable hair, the cross-section is a triangle, or it can even have longitudinal grooves along with the hair, which prevents them lying down flat. Another characteristic is that the color is similar to silver or straw, which is the cause of this condition is also known as spun-glass hair. This health condition is very rare, with around 100 cases documented in scientific literature. Nearly one-third of them also suffer from alopecia areata, which causes hair loss.
